Sparking Change in the Appropriate Use of Antipsychotics (AUA) Awards Program

2026-02-01

The "Sparking Change in the Appropriate Use of Antipsychotics (AUA)" program is a quality improvement initiative aimed at promoting person-centered care in long-term care (LTC) homes by addressing the inappropriate use of antipsychotics. Given that 1 in 4 LTC residents in Canada are prescribed potentially inappropriate antipsychotics without a psychosis diagnosis, this program provides tools, educational support, and coaching to reduce these prescriptions. Participating LTC homes can access webinars, peer networking, curated resources, and opportunities for monetary awards, with the program running from November 2024 to February 2026.
