Mayor's Seniors of the Year Awards
On October 18, 2011, we had the opportunity to officially sponsor the Mayor's Seniors of the Year Awards. During the ceremony, which was hosted at Winnipeg's City Hall, Mayor Sam Katz awarded three seniors for their significant contributions to the city of Winnipeg. "Seniors are Cool!" Videos
The Seniors are Cool! Video is an 11 minute resource targeting
school aged children to dispel the misconceptions about aging and older persons
and to teach strategies for healthy active living and lifelong learning.
This
attitude changing video comes with a resource guide and is available free from

Partnership in Dementia Care Alliance:
Assessing the process of culture change in dementia care within diverse long-term care settings
The Partnerships in Dementia Care Alliance (PiDC) is a collaborative research project focused on improving the dementia care experience for staff, residents and family members in long term care. In 2009, the principle investigators, Dr. Sherry Dupuis (Director of the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program at the University of Waterloo) and Dr. Carrie McAiney (Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University) received support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and over fifty different researchers, organizations and associations to undertake this project and join an Alliance of partners working together to enhance dementia care together. The Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety (MIPS) launched a series of 5 animated patient safety videos, titled "Learn to be Safe", to increase public awareness of patient safety. You can check out these videos here. Also MIPS offers resource materials and tools such as a medication card, patient advocate form and tips on communicating effectively with health care providers.
